John began his career in the Royal Australian Air Force, accumulating more than 24 years of service. He was commissioned as an Electronics Engineer in 1986, and worked as a Systems Engineer on design, test, installation and commissioning of capability improvements for Air Traffic control navigation, communication and radar systems. He subsequently worked as a Project Manager on major capital projects where apart from Project Management, his focus was on applying logistics support analysis (LSA) techniques to provide “supportability” considerations in the design of technical systems. During this time, John developed a passion for supply chain management brought about by the need to design logistics support organisations which maximized weapon system availability at minimum life support costs.
John left the RAAF in 1995, and spent most of the next 23 years working in supply chain management roles. He has operational and senior management experience across most supply chain functions in various industry sectors, including Defence, oil and gas, health, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing.
John joined Rheinmetall Defence Australia in August 2018 as the inaugural Director – Supply Chain and Facilities. This latest role recognizes the importance placed by RDA on taking a supply chain perspective. Part of John’s responsibilities at RDA includes supplier selection for RDA manufacturing and through‑life support programs, as well as helping Australian suppliers find export opportunities in the Global Supply Chain.
