The Queensland Government, in partnership with the City of Ipswich, hosted the inaugural Queensland Defence Summit on Tuesday, 20 November 2018. The first summit was held in Ipswich, with the theme Manufacturing, Integrated Logistics and Sustainment.
The summit brought together high calibre speakers from the defence and related industries to discuss topics around manufacturing, sustainment, integrated logistics, supply chain, exports, innovative technologies, research and partnerships. This premier event is now the must-attend defence industry business conference in Queensland.
The aim of the Queensland Defence Summit: Ipswich 2018 was to drive collaboration and engagement between defence primes, research organisations and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to further develop an understanding of their respective roles and requirements in the delivery of optimal defence outcomes.
The one-day summit was a key initiative as outlined in the City of Ipswich Defence Industry Strategy, supported by the City of Ipswich Defence Industry Advisory Committee (CIDIAC).
The members of CIDIAC are Ipswich City Council, Rheinmetall Defence Australia, TAE Aerospace, Boeing Australia, Northrop Grumman, the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, the University of Southern Queensland, Springfield City Group, the Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning and the Australian Defence Force (RAAF Amberley).
The summit was proudly supported by Platinum Event Partner Australian Industry & Defence Network Incorporated (AIDN).
This inaugural summit also saw the launch of the City of Ipswich Defence Industry Strategy 2018-2023, which recognises the importance of defence to the region’s economic and community prosperity. The strategy is endorsed by Ipswich City Council and cooperatively developed with the defence industry, Queensland Government and the Australian Defence Force to ensure its relevance and success.
