The Australian International Aerospace and Defence Exposition (“Avalon”) is the largest aviation expo in the Asia Pacific region, held biennially at Avalon in Victoria.

According to event organisers, Avalon 2019 attracted 210,000 attendees, 664 exhibitors from 25 countries and 367 industry media delegates.

Ipswich was represented at Avalon through exhibiting and coordinating the council’s first ‘City of Ipswich Business Mission’, with the intent of promoting the Defence Ipswich brand by profiling Ipswich as a growing defence region in Queensland, connecting industry to defence stakeholders and exploring future projects attraction in Ipswich.

The business mission was officially been acknowledged by the organisers of Avalon and listed in both their national and international promotional materials.

Air Commodore and former Senior Australian Defence Force Officer (SADFO) of RAAF Base Amberley Ken Robinson CSC visited the City of Ipswich exhibit and commended council on the development of the Defence Ipswich Action Plan 2018-2023.

As Base Commander of RAAF Amberley, AIRCDRE Ken Robinson was a member of the City of Ipswich Defence Industry Attraction Committee (CIDIAC).

The incoming SADFO Air Commodore Veronica Tyler visited the City of Ipswich exhibit and expressed interest in being part of CIDIAC and supporting implementation of the action plan.

Council provided business introductions and raised the profiles of delegates, resulting in lead generation for their businesses.
